Our last match of the season took place this past weekend against Sussex at Ferndown, and the team were looking to avoid losing their 15th game in a row since beating Somerset at South West Week in 2021.
The team selected was:
Andy Rideout (Captain - Dudsbury), Andrew Robson (Vice – Sherborne), Adan Yates (Parkstone), Oscar Hein (Parkstone), Matt Warren (Yeovil), Sam Roles (Weymouth), Nick Hopwood (Ferndown) and Andy Su (Knighton Heath).
Congratulations to Nick Hopwood for making his debut for the 1st team, joining Andy Su in making his debut after an unbelievable effort at the Dorset Strokeplay and a new Sherborne course record.
The team played fantastically all day and after a tight morning foursomes resulting in 2-2 at lunch, the team had a chance of a first win in a long time!
A brilliant afternoon performance saw some exceptional golf, some fantastic comebacks (especially from Sam Roles… coming back from 4 down at one point to win his match at the last), and gritty performances. Andy Su had a fantastic debut, picking up 2 wins from 2. Nick Hopwood went undefeated around his home course, and along with fine performances from Andy Rideout, Andy Robson, and Adan Yates, the team secured a vital home win. A well-deserved victory after a tough season, and a great starting point to build towards 2023.
