Hampshire County Golf Union were our opponents for our first league match of the year at Brockenhurst Golf Club. Following our very close match last year which ended in a draw we were optimistic about taking them on in their own back yard and we were pushing for a win.
The full team list for this match was as follows:-
Andy Rideout, Andrew Robson, Luke Hirst, Matthew Sandy, Giles Legg Harry Mitchell, Tom Kollberg and Pete Corrick.
Our 1st match of the day was the pairing of Matt Sandy and Luke Hirst but this was a quick affair and they unfortunately went down 7/6. Corrick and Rideout teed off 2nd with Kollberg and Robson 3rd, Both of these matches were close all the way but ended on the last hole in 2nd place. Bringing up the rear were the experienced pair of Legg and Mitchell who showed their class in getting across the line 1 up to give us a chance to get a result in the afternoon singles.
Hampshire 3 – Dorset 1
Lunch
After lunch we had an enormous task in front of us, Hampshire had 4 international players in their line up and at times it was as if we were playing against a brick wall. There wasn’t a way through the quality they had in their team and the first 7 matches of the afternoon went to Hampshire, Harry Mitchell did manage to stop a white wash of afternoon singles and he bagged himself a half.
It was disappointing to lose so heavily in the 1st match of the season but with Southwest Week just around the corner at Parkstone there is still much to play for.
Please can I thank all the players for their commitment over the weekend and I would also like to thank the Dorset Executive for their support on the day.
Final Score
Hampshire 10.5 – Dorset 1.5
