28th Annual Dinner

County President Bill Kennedy Knighton Heath GC was at the helm for the 28th Annual Dinner his last at the helm as he hands over to Bridport’s John White at next week’s Annual Meeting.  We were once more at Bentleys Restaurant which has proved so successful over the last few years and as usual we were once more looked after admirably by the staff.

Top TableWe had Nigel Evans OBE President of England Golf as guest speaker from HQ with our after dinner entertainment being supplied by the very funny Russ Williams.  Our guests from around the counties were Paul Clahane President SWCGA, Ian Cornwell Gloucestershire, John Bury Sussex, Jim Pocknell Kent, John Moore Hampshire along with Sarah Pemberton from our sponsors Ringwood Brewery.  I again applaud all the clubs who attended along with their members who travelled from all around the County to support the dinner making it a resounding success once more.  We had a hundred and thirty nine slightly up on last year and for me it was great to see for the first time a table from the Isle of Purbeck who I hope enjoyed the evening and will make it a regular fixture in their calendar. It was also great to see the Captain from Yeovil David Recardo this again was a first to have Yeovil representation and who knows how many we will have next year?

On completion of an excellent the meal our Master of Ceremonies Mr Philip Gardner got the main part of the evening under way, with me starting off proposing the loyal toast.

We were then heartily entertained, firstly by Nigel who delivered an excellent informative speech on golf in the Olympics very refreshing to hear.  Nigel was followed by our own President, Bill who did the County proud delivering his speech eloquently and touching on matters that are of concern to us all.

The night was then topped off by a superb performance from our entertainer Russ Williams who had us all reeling in laughter with his sharp wit and humorous stories a great way to finish an excellent evening. Well done Peter Fry who left to raptures of laughter and sensibly sat in the bar for the remaining part of Russ’s act.

A great night and I look forward to greeting you all at the 29th Annual Dinner planned to be held at Dudsbury on Friday 10th March 2017 so please make a note in your diary and I look forward to seeing you there.
