25th Annual Dinner

Dinner GeustsCounty President John Calver Parkstone GC was at the helm for his first and the Counties 25th Annual Dinner held at Dudsbury GC in Bentley’s restaurant.  John has had a very busy first year in post and as he retires this year is looking forward to seeing even more of the Counties events and championships.

My sincere thanks to all the club members who have once more supported the dinner, it was great to see both Ferndown and Highcliffe Castle out in force as both clubs celebrate their centenary year. Numbers were slightly up from Blandford with the room full and all enjoying the splendid food.  I thank those who travelled from afar such as Lyme Regis, Weymouth, Came Down and from the North Ashley Wood.

It was a first for us also as we were honoured to have with us the Immediate Past President of England Golf Sue Johnston who has been a stalwart in all she has done for within the game for Ladies Golf.  Her speech was uplifting and focused on the whole game as we move forward with a merged hierarchy.

Our guests from around the counties were Mr Ian Clark President SWCGA,  Brian Kingston Gloucestershire,  Mr David Richardson Sussex,  Barry Morgan Hampshire, IOW and CI, Jim Pocknell Kent and Simon Marchesi from our sponsors Ringwood Brewery.

On completion of the meal our Master of Ceremonies Mr Philip Gardner got the main part of the evening under way, with myself giving the loyal toast.

We were then heartily entertained, firstly by Sue Johnston who delivered an excellent speech to us all it was very refreshing to hear.  Sue was followed by our own President, John whose first speech was delivered eloquently touching on matters that are of concern to us all.

We then had the pleasure to help Ferndown and Highcliffe celebrate their centenary as Sue and John presented the Captains Barry Vincent and John Saunders with the centenary plate.  Both said a few words and we all wish them well in their year of celebration.

We finished the evening being royally entertained by our Comedian Mr Mike Lewis who gave us all something to laugh about with his sharp wit and one liners.

A great night and I look forward to greeting you all at the 26th Annual dinner planned to be held at the Crown Hotel Blandford on Friday 14th March so please make a note in your diary and I look forward to seeing you there.
