24th Annual Dinner

The County President Douglas Pratt Weymouth GC was again at the helm for this the 24th County Dinner which this year was held at t he Crown Hotel Blandford.  Doug who finishes his term on the 15th will take a back seat after a long and distinguished County Career.  We wish both Denise and Doug all the best for the future.

My sincere thanks to all the club members who again  supported the dinner, there was a slight decrease from last year at Dudsbury but I think you will all agree it was a very relaxed evening with excellent food and entertainment.  We had 15 of our clubs represented at the dinner from as far as Lyme Regis and Bridport again thank you all for your support.

We were honoured to have with us the newly elected President of England Golf Mr Paul Baxter who has been a stalwart in all he has done for the EGU in its move to Woodhall and he is not too bad with the clubs as well having had a very distinguished Amateur career.  His speech was one of the best I have heard directed in the main at you the club members and focused on the county as a whole.
Jimmy Quinn’s sharp wit and one liners make him one of the finest stand-up comedians around and we were delighted he could attend as our After Dinner Speaker.

Geusts
Our guests from around the counties were Mr David Wakley SWCGA, Stephen Butterfield Somerset, Henry Paget  Devon, Bill Hill Gloucestershire, Geoff Titt Wiltshire, Mr David Richardson Sussex, Roger Vincent Surrey, Tony Cullen Hampshire, IOW and CI, Gerry Fitter Cornwall and Richard Saunders from our sponsors Ringwood Brewery.

On completion of the meal our Master of Ceremonies Mr Philip Gardner got the main part of the evening under way, with our President of Juniors Ian Clark giving the loyal toast.  We were then heartily entertained, firstly by Paul Baxter who delivered an excellent speech to us all it was very refreshing to hear.  Paul was followed by our own President, Doug had no need to be nervous his speech was delivered eloquently; he touched on matters that are of concern to us all and thanked all the winners from 2011.  Little did he know he would be starring later on in the evening see the photo’s below.

We finished the evening being royally entertained by our Comedian Mr Jimmy Quinn and boy did he entertain from the moment he got up to his final gag the room was filled with great laughter.  The four member stars are to be congratulated, the captain Giles Legg for his “Fartastic German Impression and John Smith was something else with hair!  The president had us in stiches as he became a young Shirley Temple we think!  Gerry from Weymouth is still searching for the bells the bells!Which is John?

A great night’s entertainment, we return to Dudsbury next year on Friday the 08 March so please make a note in your diary and I look forward to seeing you there.
