Winning the last match of the season was vital for us before winter training starts again in November. Dudsbury Golf & Country Club has been a good hunting ground for us in recent years but with Sussex arriving needing a 9 – 3 result in order to win the league it was clear both teams wanted to finish off the season in style.
Lee James and David Cook re-joined their match winning partnership to set the match off on a positive note winning comfortably 5/4.
Local player Andy Rideout and Callum Ward paired up for tight match that went to the 18th hole. After Rideout hit his tee shot into the fairway bunker Ward hit a fantastic 5 iron from 180 yards to the back edge of the green, unfortunately they took 3 to get down and secured a half point.
Regular 2017 pairing for Matt Sandy and Sean Dimmick were slow to get away with some unspectacular play were unable to reduce the deficit and lost their match 2/1.
Finally to complete the mornings play Giles Legg and Harry Mitchell played some great golf in terrible weather to see off their opponents 6/5.
Dorset 2 ½ – Sussex 1 ½
Lunch
With the weather closing in a strong mind-set was required to get the job done in the afternoon singles. There wasn’t any need to be clever with the order of play and the morning results were a good indicator as to the player’s positions for the afternoon.

Andy Rideout -1 AS AS AS (Halve)

Matthew Sandy +2 +1 +1 +2 (Won)
With check points at the 5th, 9th, 15th and 18th holes it was a solid and consistent team display and we looked strong all afternoon against a very strong team. It has been an up and down year but there are so many positives to take into the 2018 season. Thank you again to the whole squad for their efforts and support through 2017 and it won’t be long before we begin our 2018 campaign.
Final Score Dorset 7 ½ - Kent 4 ½
