Following on from their win against Wiltshire the under 14’s arrived in a confident mood and the morning foursomes initially got off to a fantastic start, with Rhys & Bailey racing to a 2 up lead and Thomas Cartwright Terry & Gus Moxon looking to be cruising to victory when they were 3 up after 6. Unfortunately, what looked like being a dominant performance with the potential of heading towards a 4-0 lead, was turned on its head with Rhys & Bailey only managing to secure a half and Thomas & Gus surrendering their lead and losing 1 down; at lunch we struggled to fathom how we were 1.5 – 2.5 down. The team was confident of fighting back in the afternoon singles and on paper we were stronger in the top three matches and the final match, with the other appearing to be more closely matched in terms of handicaps. Regrettably the afternoon singles didn’t go as planned and Somerset kept the momentum from the foursomes winning the first 4 matches. Congratulations to Jack Pallister and Jenson Bull in managing to win their matches in the afternoon. A disappointing day against a Somerset team that played some excellent golf and deserved their victory.
