Match Play

Dudsbury GC Wednesday 14 April 2010Semi Finals

Harry Mitchell Ferndown v Alex Spencer Highcliffe
Harry Shaw Canford Magna v Robbie Mabb Weymouth

Wednesday saw the semi finals get under way with Harry Mitchell striking the ball well and all though tight in the early holes Harry soon took control of the match and ran out a comfortable winner 4&2 The other semi was a real tight affair between harry and Robbie, who seemed to be holing everything. Robbie went one up and held that for most of the round, Robbie played a great shot in to the fifteenth and it look like he would go two up a Harry slightly pulled his shot in leaving a 20 foot plus putt which he sunk and secured the halve. He then drove over the lake on sixteen and with a good chip brought the match level. Harry then produced two great shots into seventeen to win with a birdie and with both getting on it two at the last harry secured a hard fought victory 1 up.

Final

So the Final saw possibly the two best County juniors come together for what was to be a good tussle as both were in a good spell of form. It was nip and tuck in the early holes and they were level as they came up nine and when Harry Shaw drove into the trees it looked all but certain Harry Mitchell would go one up, but then a classic error on the rules saw him replace his ball on the fairway twice and incur a one shot penalty from the referee and that was enough to allow his opponent the hole. He bounced back taking the tenth, Harry Shaw then took the eleventh with a birdie and went two up by taking the fourteenth, he then sunk a tremendous putt on fifteen to go Dormy. Harry Mitchell won the sixteenth and as Harry Shaw secured a half on seventeen to take the Henderson title 2&1.henderson_winners2010_120

Dudsbury GC Tuesday 13 April 2010

The Henderson Match Play got under way on a very bright but breezy morning and the first match was tight with BJ Bugden just going down to last years champion Rob Condliffe by one hole. Harry Mitchell saw off Oliver Stocks 2&1 and young James Dodds took the first extra hole with a birdie hole to win his match taking the scalp of Jackson Bowes. Tom Robson saw off Sonny Wilkinson. In the afternoon Harry Mitchell beat Rob Condliffe thus ensuring a new name on the cup this year, Harry Shaw comfortably beat James Dodds 4&3 and Robbie Mabb continued his good form seeing off Jack Rice, Alex Spencer dormy three up then proceeded to lose the next two, Tom Robson had a two footer at the last to take him down extra holes but the ball horse shoed round the hole much to the relief of Alex whose putter seemed to desert him over the final holes.

Keith Durbin Salver

Round 3

Parkstone GC Monday 15 February 2010

Congratulations to Sonny Wilkinson on winning the third round of this years Henderson Trophy with a very creditable 72 at Parkstone on Monday.  It was still cold but the wind had dropped and at least there was no frost so the course was open fully for the competition. Billy-Joe from Broadstone is making great strides and again finished with a gross 74 taking him to the top of the leader board for the top 16 slots.  The top 5 are almost secure in gaining a top 16 slot but it is getting interesting for the last 6 places with  James Dodds, Tom Parsons, Ollie Courtney and last years winner Robert Condliffe all waiting for the last round and with every chance of securing a top 16 finish.  So it really is all to play for at Ashley Wood in April.

Round 2

Came Down GC Wednesday 30 December 2009

The delayed second round of the Henderson finally got under way at Came Down on the 30 December.  The low cloud caused some concern and after much discussion we got under way from the first with the help of parents spotting down the fairway.  The event had to be a non qualifier due to temporary greens, but the scoring given the conditions was very good with Harry Shaw Canford and Jack Rice Ferndown both coming home in 66, closely followed by Robbie Mabb Weymouth with 67 and James Dodds Broadstone 68.  Tom Parsons Dudsbury who missed the first round got his campaign off to a great start with a one over 70.

Round 1

Wareham GC 26 October 2009

On a sunny morning this years Henderson got under way at Wareham, the traditional 4 medals rounds this year will be played at clubs around the County with the Match Play returning to the Dudsbury Course.  With some 45 entries for this year's event it proves to be one of the best for several years.  The course at Wareham was in excellent condition and the conditions were set for some good scoring.  But it is a difficult track as some of the more experienced players found out. Harry Mitchell was out of sorts coming home in 81 and playing partner Harry Shaw was home in 73.  Jack Rice from Ferndown had 74 but the round of the day went to young Billy-Joe Bugden who had a one over gross 70.  Yesterdays Alliss winner Oliver Stocks continues to go from strength to strength and had a splendid 72 so he will be playing off a shot less next time round.
