County Stroke Play Championship 2016Brad Cox Stroke Play Champion

Broadstone Golf Club 14 August 2016

The County Stroke Play Championship got under way at Broadstone Golf Club in what was a very warm and sunny day.  So given that there was a full field and the sun was shining we were in for some good golf throughout the day.  Scoring in the early holes was good but the back 6 holes took a few back from the players and you must not stray from the fairways as it could and did in some cases prove very costly.  Brad Cox led at the half way stage with a fine one under par 69 with Lee Wyeth on level par followed by Steffen Foley, Joe Turner, Dominic Knight and Tom Robson all on 72.

The afternoon saw better scoring by the players as they tried hard to close the gap Tom Plumb made the turn 6 under par but slipped up on the inward nine finishing 2 under on 68 taking fourth place overall.  Steffen continued his steady play with a two over 72 putting him into third place.  A fine 68 from Andy Rideout saw him slip into second on a 141 total one over par.  The day belonged though to our County Junior Champion Brad Cox who kept his nerve coming home one over for a level par total of 140 to take the Championship by one and lift the Parkstone Bowl.

Brad CoxWeymouth Jubilee Cup

It proved to be a good day for Brad as he also lifted the Handicap Weymouth Jubilee Cup with a fine net 136 four under pipping young Oscar Perry by one.  Oscar had a great level round of 70 in the afternoon a net 64 putting him on 137 for the Championship

As for the Donald Holmes it looked certain that this would go to Dominic Knight but he found all sorts of problems in the afternoon and his 83 pushed him down to fourth place.  Harry Mitchell took it with a total of 290  two better than Brad Cox.
