Dorset County Golf Union

2012 - SWCGA Under 14 / 16 Championship

EXETER GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB 03 JUNE 2012

It was a breezy day with the ever-present threat of rain which, fortunately, came only in a few bursts. The greens were firm and a touch fluffy and the flag placings showed signs of wear. The course has a number of short par fours and fairly straightforward par threes. However there are some treacherous holes, notably the 15th and 17th.

The Dorset team with their scores for the day were:George Long Second

        Under 16s:
                Billy-Joe Bugden    89
                G Long         70
                Ollie Stocks           87
                George Seed         84
                Harry Rickman       81

                George Davis         85
                Dominic Dunstan    77

Dominic Dunstan Handicap Winner

George Long did very well to overcome four dropped shots to finish one over par and miss the individual prize by one stroke. Similarly Dominic Dunstan missed the Under 14 individual prize by one stroke but won the net prize off his handicap of 9. Par for the course is 69 and SS 70. Jack Baker, off 6, also did well to card a 74. As may be guessed from a glance at these scores out aggregate was not going to be brilliant! The team positions at the close were:

            1st             Cornwall with 375
            2nd            Somerset with 379
Joint 3rd     Dorset and Devon with 386
            5th            Gloucestershire with 388
6th            Wiltshire with 391                               For the team results click here
