DORSET OPEN 2011Dorset Open Champion

The Dorset Open got under way with the Sun shining brightly, the event which includes the Hillamsland Trophy was again full with both Amateurs and Professionals from across the South Region.  Last years Champion Lee James was back to defend his trophy as was last years Hillamsland winner Tom Peacock.

With the course in great condition so early in the year scoring was predicted to be good and first in with a 1 over was Martyn Thompson Parkstone this was followed by a level par round from County Champion Tom Leech Ferndown along with Kevin Garwood Parkstone.  Louis Boston Saltford came in 1 under and this was followed by Lee James who came in 4 under on 67 with playing partner Robbie Mabb Weymouth 2 back with an impressive 2 under 69.  David Norton Parkstone 1 under and Mark Wiggett 2 under but the best amateur in the morning was Robbie Busher Salisbury and South Wilts who matched Lee’s 67 and topped the leader board on four under.

So the afternoon round got under way with all to play for and again the scoring was good Kevin Garwood shot 4 under 67 to put him on a 138 total and clubhouse leader.  Kevin Spurgeon went one better in the afternoon with a level par 71 along with Andy Rideout West Wilts.  Graham Howell had a good 71 along with Matt Walker, scoring for the amateurs proved a little harder in the afternoon with only Daniel Bishop Christchurch managing to break par with a 70.  Lee James found the course again to his liking and romped home an easy winner and retaining the trophy with a superb 66 giving him a 133 total 5 clear of Kevin Garwood.  Robbie Busher had a 76 a total of 143 to take the top amateur spot and the Hillamsland Trophy.  This year the honours went to the Professionals who took 7 of the top 10 places.
